What are the rental rates and hours for canoes and kayaks?

To make things easy, we book by appointment only. Choose your own adventure with flexible 2, 4, 6, or 8-hour time blocks. Unwind for a full 8-hour day at just $85, or customize your experience with our various discounted time options. Get ready for a paddling experience tailored to your schedule!

How do I make a reservation?

Making a reservation is easy! Simply use the Reservation tab on our website to reserve your craft.

Canoe and Kayak Rental Process:

Arrive at the Pell Lake Public Boat Launch (Lakeshore Dr.) (or where agreed upon) at your booked time.
We'll meet you there with everything you need to enjoy the water safely!

4. Enjoy Your Adventure:

Explore the beauty of local public lakes at your own pace.

5. Return and Let Us Know!:

When your adventure concludes, return your canoe or kayak to the launch location.

What is the difference between a canoe and a kayak?

A canoe is an open boat that is propelled by a paddle with a single blade, while a kayak is a sit-on or closed boat that is propelled by a paddle with two blades. Canoes are typically wider and more stable, while kayaks are faster and more maneuverable.

Do I need experience to rent a canoe or kayak?

No, we welcome paddlers of all experience levels. Our safety video will provide you with basic instruction and safety tips before you head out on the water.

Are there any age restrictions for rentals?

We require that all paddlers be at least 18 years old or signed for/accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 16 must wear an approved PFD (Personal Flotation Device) /lifevest at all times while on the water.

Are paddles and PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices)/life vests included in the rental price?

Yes, each reserved canoe or kayak comes complete with paddles, a whistle, and USCG-approved PFDs (Personal Flotation Device), ensuring you have all the necessary equipment for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Is there a safety orientation before heading out on the water?

Absolutely! Before your adventure, all customers are required to sign a liability waiver and watch a brief safety video to familiarize themselves with proper techniques and emergency procedures.

Can I bring my dog on the canoe or kayak?

Yes, we are dog-friendly! Feel free to bring your furry friend along for the adventure. We just recommend they have their own life vest or other means of safety. Please note: It is crucial to familiarize yourself with local water ordinances and regulations. Dogs are not allowed on the beach!

Do I need to sign a liability waiver?

Yes, for everyone's safety and pertinent to the law, a liability waiver must be signed by each participant before utilizing our rental services.

What happens if there are damages or loss of equipment during my rental?

While we also provide paddles and life vests, any damages or loss of the craft, paddles, or vests will result in additional charges up to the full replacement cost. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to maintain the quality of our equipment. Please note: Being a new business, our inventory of crafts might be limited. Please book your reservation in advance for a better chance to get on the water!

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand plans may change. While we don’t offer same-day cancellations, we’re more than happy to work with you on a credit for future paddling. Cancellations with full refunds must be at least 48 hours in advance so that others have the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful lakes.

Can I rent equipment for multiple days?

While our standard rental is for the full day (8:00AM - 5:00PM), we may accommodate extended rentals, (as well as early or late check-ins/check-outs for an additional fee). Contact us directly to discuss your specific needs, and we'll do our best to assist you.

Does PLCC have a physical location?

Pell Lake Canoe Co. is strictly a mobile drop-off business. While you might notice that we rent a parking space across the street from Pell Lake, no form of business operations, transactions, or customer interactions occur on that property. This model was adopted to legally follow all local zoning ordinances while also offering customers a hassle-free rental process. However, make sure to stop into Pookie’s Sunset Saloon for great food, drinks, and company after your adventure!

Assumption of Risk: I acknowledge and understand that paddling activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to the risk of personal injury, property damage, and death. I voluntarily assume all such risks. It is my responsibility to know how to operate rented crafts and educate myself on safety tips, techniques, rules and behaviors.
Compliance with Local Rules: I agree to comply with all local rules and regulations governing canoe and kayak activities. It is my responsibility to be aware of and adhere to these rules. This includes local water ordinances involving trash/debris, vegetation laws, maneuvering, fishing/swimming, alcohol, animals, and so-on.
Release of Liability: Pell Lake Canoe Co., its owners, employees, localities and affiliates including but not limited to The Village of Bloomfield/Walworth County are not liable for any injuries, accidents, deaths, damages, legal issues, fees, or any other consequences arising from the use of our rental services or equipment. Furthermore, I understand that PLCC is strictly a mobile service business and does not operate business/customer matters at any physical location including but not limited to Pookies Sunset Saloon nor Pell Lake public boat launches. I also acknowledge that any damage or loss of equipment will result in covering the full cost of replacement.
Acknowledgment of Responsibility: I understand that it is my responsibility to operate the rented equipment safely and in accordance with all applicable laws. I am aware that failure to do so may result in legal consequences. I have watched and comprehended the safety video found on pelllakecanoerental.com.
Liability Waiver Agreement: By booking with Pell Lake Canoe Co., I acknowledge that I have read, understood, and agreed to the terms of this liability waiver. I release Pell Lake Canoe Co., The Village of Bloomfield/Walworth County, and any other affiliates from liability for any injury, death, loss, financial reimbursement, or damage incurred before and during the rental period, and thereafter.
