Temple of Heaven gunpowder green tea is a Chinese green tea with tightly rolled leaves that resemble gunpowder. The leaves are rolled into balls during processing, which helps them retain their freshness and gives the tea a crisp, medium-bodied flavor. Gunpowder tea is also known as Zucha or "pearl tea" and is thought to have originated in China in the 7th century. It got its current name in the 19th century when a British clerk noticed the rolled leaves resembled grains of gunpowder. The tea is often grown in the Zhejiang region of China. TOH gunpowder green tea can be enjoyed on its own or with the addition of fresh mint leaves. It's also higher in caffeine than most green teas, with 35–40 mg per 8 oz serving, and is sometimes consumed by athletes to improve endurance.
